Fred and Lynn Gilbank

Hamilton Police continue to seek information about the homicides of Lynn and Fred Gilbank, who were found shot to death in their Ancaster home on November 16, 1998.

The couple, both 52, had been married for approximately 30 years. Lynn was a lawyer and Fred was a computer specialist. Their adult son discovered them in an upstairs bedroom.

A neighbour reported hearing several loud bangs at approximately 5:00 a.m. An older car in poor condition was seen travelling south on Postans Path around that time. There were no obvious signs of forced entry or robbery.

Investigators believe Lynn was targeted because of her work as a lawyer and that Fred was killed when he confronted her attackers.

Charges were laid against individuals in connection with the killings but were later withdrawn after the Crown determined there was no reasonable prospect of conviction. The homicides remain unsolved, and the investigation is ongoing.

A $21,000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information about the killings, the vehicle seen that morning or those responsible is asked to contact Hamilton Police.

With the passage of time, someone who was previously reluctant to speak may now feel ready to come forward. Your information could help investigators find answers and bring a measure of closure to Lynn and Fred’s family.

You do not need to have witnessed the crime or be certain your information is significant. Something you saw, heard or remember could help investigators find answers for a family still waiting.
