Thelma Clapham

Hamilton Police continue to seek information about the homicide of 79-year-old Thelma Clapham, a mother of five and grandmother remembered for her kindness, humour and devotion to her family.

On December 2, 2004, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police found Thelma dead in her ninth-floor apartment on Rebecca Street in Hamilton. Neighbours had raised concerns after she missed a regular grocery shopping outing and newspapers accumulated at her door.

Thelma died from blunt force trauma. Investigators believe she was killed sometime between November 30 and December 2, 2004. There were no signs of forced entry. Although the apartment had not been ransacked, some cash was missing.

Investigators interviewed approximately 200 people and identified a small group of persons of interest. Police believe a woman may have been involved, possibly with another person. No weapon has been recovered, and a motive has not been established.

A $5,000 reward is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Thelma’s family continues to live with unanswered questions. Someone who once felt unable to speak may now be ready to come forward. Even the smallest detail could help investigators solve her murder and bring answers to those who loved her.

You do not need to have witnessed the crime or be certain your information is significant. Something you saw, heard or remember could help investigators find answers for a family still waiting.
